Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is a measurement of your walking patterns and is used to identify potential problem areas from atypical patterns. The physiotherapist will observe your feet and legs, first, in standing and then, second, in walking. They will move around while you walk to have a complete view from the front, back, and both sides. They are looking for abnormal movement in the back, pelvis, knees or hips and for changes in the arches at the feet. Depending on your condition, you also may be observed while running on a treadmill or outside the clinic. If problem areas are identified, custom orthotics may be prescribed, often in conjunction with physiotherapy treatment, to alleviate the pain and realign the structures.
