Sport and Community Involvement - Mike Fisher Hockey Camp

The Mike Fisher Hockey Camp
The goal of the camp is to run for three success weeks from July 21 to August 9, 2008. The facility chosen for the 2008 camp is the Ray Friel Sport Medicine Centre located off Tenth Line Road in the community of Orleans. The Ray Friel Sport Medicine Centre is part of the Professional Physiotherapy Centres family and is a proud sponsor of the Mike Fisher Hockey Camp. The west end of Ottawa has always been a strong hockey community due to its geographical closeness to Scotia Bank Place and the Bell Sens Plex. This site was chosen in the east end because the facility is state of the art and the Orleans community is in need of a high caliber camp that can reach out to the kids of this area. The camp will ice Peewee, Novice, Atom and Pre College level players. There will be two ice pads in use with on ice instructions, goalie clinics and drills making up the better part of the day. Dry land training is also an important part to every hockey camp and players will be exposed to vigorous off ice training including motion drills, strength and conditioning as well as fun cardio games like soccer. R&R in order to mingle with friends, meet new ones, and chat about the days events for the highlight reel will also be encouraged.

About Mike Fisher
Mike Fisher was born in Peterborough, Ontario on June 5, 1980. Armed with a strong sense of Faith, Conviction and Drive, Mike entered the Peterborough Hockey network at the age of six years old. He excelled quickly and although considered small for his age, Mike never gave up on his goal to eventually play professional hockey.

Skipping ahead to June 1998, Mike was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 2nd round of the 1998 draft (44th overall) by the Ottawa Senators. Since that day Mike has played 8 full seasons for the Senators recently signing a new contract that will see him in a Senators Jersey for the next 5 years.

Living in the community of Kanata, Mike has time and time again demonstrated his love of community by playing an important role in several community events on and off the ice. Mike is the ambassador and honorary chair for Rogers House, a pediatric palliative care center for children with various illnesses located at the Children's Hospital. Recently, Mike has created his own Foundation - the Mike Fisher Foundation - in order to raise community awareness to support charities and individuals around the community who are less fortunate.

Keeping in line with the needs of the community, Mike has made a commitment to launch his first non-profit hockey school this summer for 3 weeks (July 21 to August 9, 2008) at the Ray Friel Center in Orleans. With the passion that Mike carries on the ice, he has put together one of the best group of players and instructors whom best represent his dedication to community and love of youth for his new camp.

Charities and Foundation
Rogers House
Named after the great Roger Neilson, coach of the Ottawa Senators and dear friend to Mike, Rogers House is a pediatric palliative care facility located at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern Ontario
Located right here in Ottawa, Mike is proud to call this charity one of his favorites. The Make A Wish Foundation grants many different kinds of wishes to terminal children. These wishes can range from trips to their favorite dream destinations like Disney to renovating their bedrooms to include a new computer for school. Accompanied with good friend and radio personality Mark Papousek, Mike alongside Mark's Y101 Boot Scooters aims to grant as many wishes as possible in the coming years.

The Mike Fisher Foundation
Created in 2007, the Foundation is a community-oriented Foundation aimed at easing the needs of those less fortunate in the Ottawa area and is a resource that Mike can use in giving back to the community as a whole.
